In 2026, roofing contractors want roofing software that saves labor and gets a clear, priced quote to the homeowner faster. Roofing Contractor's 2026 State of the Industry survey found 40% of contractors now use some form of AI, up from 29% a year earlier, and 58% run a CRM. Homeowners are pushing the same way: 65% say they are more likely to call a roofer that shows pricing online.
This post uses Roofing Contractor magazine's own 2026 contractor and homeowner surveys, run by its research arm, myCLEARopinion Insights Hub. We cover what owners already use, where their tools fall short, how AI is really being used, and what "best roofing software" means at your size. We left out surveys published by software companies.
Fewer systems, less labor per job and faster quotes. The pressure is cost: in Roofing Contractor's 2026 State of the Industry report, 55% of contractors reported rising labor costs, up 14% on average, and 36% named a lack of qualified workers as a top challenge.
Most roofers already pay for plenty of software. The same survey found contractors made the most use of enterprise or accounting software (67%), estimating software (63%) and cloud computing (61%). CRMs (58%) and drones (54%) were close behind.

So the 2026 want is not more software. It is software that removes steps. When labor is your fastest-rising cost, every handoff between apps is paid time: rekeying a measurement into an estimate, then into a proposal, then into a contract.
The gap is clarity, not speed. In RC's 2026 homeowner survey, roughly one-third of homeowners named unclear or unexpected costs and a lack of transparency as their biggest challenge with a roofer, and about 23% blamed poor communication, lack of updates and delays.
Response time is mostly handled. About 39% of homeowners expect to hear back the same day and 56% within one to two days, and 45% of contractors say they aim for a same-day response.
Pricing is where roofers lose ground. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of homeowners are more likely to call a roofer with pricing on its website, yet about 33% of contractors list no pricing at all. And 66% of homeowners say they gather three quotes, so yours gets read side by side with two others. A quote that is easy to understand wins that comparison.
More of them use it every year, mostly for office work. Roofing Contractor's survey found 40% of contractors used some form of AI in 2025, up from 29% in the prior survey, and another 36% are discussing how to add it in the next two years. Only 9% said they have no plans to use it.
Commercial roofers moved even faster. In RC's 2025 commercial roofing report, 39% use some form of AI, up from 20% a year earlier. The report says roofers use automated chats and AI programs to streamline lead generation, scheduling, estimation and material ordering.

What the surveys do not tell you is whether that AI lives inside the roofing software or in a separate chat window. That distinction matters. AI worth paying for does production work you would otherwise pay a person to do.
At Artemis, AI delivers roof measurements in about 7 seconds. A full roof report costs $5.75 to $12, ESX file included. Fast measurements mean time back for your estimator on every lead.
The best roofing software fits your job mix and stage, not the longest feature list. Start with the step that slows your sales cycle most.
Owner-operators and small crews. You need measurements, quick estimates, e-signatures and payments without a long setup. Compare what you pay per report and per seat as you add reps.
Growing retail roofers. Your bottleneck is the kitchen table. Look for proposals the homeowner can interact with, financing inside the quote and contract signing in the same flow. That is where Artemis Roofing fits: proposals, integrated financing, contract signing and a CRM, with unlimited users and unlimited contracts. Our Shingle Visualizer shows homeowners new shingles on their own roof in real time, with pricing that updates as they compare.
Production-heavy and insurance contractors. If you run multiple crews or a lot of storm work, production management comes first: crew scheduling, material ordering and claim paperwork. Pick the system your production team will live in, then make sure sales data flows into it.
Roofers who also sell solar. Roofing Contractor found 41% of contractors were involved with solar in 2025. If that is you, keep both on one proposal. Artemis lets reps quote reroofing alongside solar with the same financing and contract.
Many larger teams pair a production system with a faster sales tool. That works if data moves cleanly between them, so ask about CRM integrations.
Run every option through the same six questions. If a vendor cannot show you the answer live, assume the answer is no.

Accounting, estimating and CRM tools lead. Roofing Contractor's 2026 report found 67% use enterprise or accounting software, 63% use estimating software and 58% use a CRM.
Yes, and use is growing fast. Roofing Contractor found 40% of contractors used some form of AI in 2025, up from 29% the year before.
Many roofing platforms include it. Artemis includes contract signing with unlimited contracts. Ask any vendor whether signing is capped or billed per contract.
Fast, but not instantly. In RC's 2026 homeowner survey, 39% expect to hear back the same day and 56% within one to two days.
